DSM Statistics
A DSM is any car built in the Mitsubishi/Chrysler plant in Normal, Illinois. Here we will be discussing 1st and 2nd gen cars. There are some positives and negatives to both machines.
1g FWD- "It is the only way I will get back into DSM'ing", said Paul Estevez, now a Supra
owner. These are quite possibly the most
reliable of them all when it comes to
adding mods. No worries about breaking
driveline parts here. Did I mention they
are helatious top gear. I have personally
had mine to 155mph in 4th!!!! and still
pulling with a 16g. Did I hit 5th? What do you think I am stupid. :>
1g AWD- Ruuuppppppppppp.......ruuuuummmmm bam!!!
What was that? The sound of a 3 bolt
rearend snapping in half. They will do
this if you decide on a '90-'91 model. Go
with a '92-'94 and you will be safe. Or if
you like the pop-ups swap one in they are
a direct bolt on.
1g Best Choice- 1992 AWD and FWD. You will get the
big rod big crank motor in an early model,
and the 4 bolt rearend on the AWD. These
motors can handle 500hp stock and no
crankwalk has been reported.
2g FWD- Definate crankwalk and cost hella loot to
make fast. Your best bet is PMS system to
tune the timing back in, the ecu loves to
retard timing in this car!!!
2g AWD- Definate crankwalk but can be made fast for
just a little more money than a 1g AWD.
Definitley the best shifting of
both generations.
2g Best Choice- The girls will say any as this car
is a chick magnet. The reason for this is
probably because they are so riced out. I
am not a big fan but if I had to go for one
it would be a 1997 Talon........with a 1g
motor. Sorry guys.

How did I get into DSM'ing? That is a very easy question to answer. I was working for an auto transport company in 1997 and drove many cars. Some included such rivals as the Mustang and Camaro. One day I hopped into a neat little number that said Talon Tsi on the rear bumper. I started the 2.0 motor over popped the clutch out and was off. This car really had pep it felt faster than both of the American muscle cars. I proceeded to drive the car home that evening and fell in love with it. I promised myself if I could ever find an early 1g in mint condition I would buy it. Now here I am.
